Surfing in Boise?

Adjacent to Esther Simplot Park, Whitewater Park is in the north end of Boise, Idaho and accessible from the Boise Greenbelt.  This low-head dam is designed to make an adjustable wave in the river that can be optimized for surfing, kayaking or other uses. There is plenty of parking and restroom facilities so no need to wrap a towel around you in the parking lot hoping it doesn’t fall off.  There is only room for one person at a time on the wave, so you have to wait your turn. The vibe is positive, fun and doesn’t seem to have the localism I have found in other surf spots in coastal cities, which is very cool.  If you did not bring along your surfboard, no worries.  Idaho River Sports shares the parking lot with Esther Simplot Park, so pick up your surfboard, paddleboard, or kayak on the way down to the river and finish the day with drinks or a meal at Luciano’s Café with riverside dining.  The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and is a favorite for anyone who is up for a challenge.  This is a must see when visiting the Treasure Valley.
